Uttar Pradesh is the largest populous state of India, with fourth largest geographical area and is located in the northern part. The state represents close to 17% of the total population of India and  shares its borders with Rajasthan, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Nepal and touches the states of Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh to the southeast. It has approximately 65 cities and is divided in 75 districts.

Geographically Uttar Pradesh has 243,000 sq. kilometer of area which is similar to land area of United Kingdom, one of Europe’s leading sovereign state. With population of United Kingdom being 64.1 million, Uttar Pradesh has a total of 204.2 million population which is approximately 3 times that of U.K. Kanpur being the most populated city in this state has around 2,920,067 people (2011 census).  Lucknow being the capital of Uttar Pradesh is the second most populated city with 2,901,474 people (2011 census).

With such immense population, the consumption of essentials, day to day supplies, durables, industrial and farm inputs, pharmaceuticals, automobiles and spares is humongous. From food, clothing, water to even fuel, the rate chart has risen up till date and is expected to rise even further. Due the this, the state has unlimited potential for consumer oriented companies.

The economy of Uttar Pradesh is the third largest in India after Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. From the statistics of 2013-2014, the Gross Domestic Product of U.P. was $130 Billion which is around 5.1% growth from previous years. This economy constitutes to agriculture, fishing, minerals and heavy industries and also the handloom sector.

Uttar Pradesh is involved in major contribution towards Indian food sector. A total of 50.05 million tons of food grains were produced in the state of U.P. When stated in terms of proportion, agriculture in Uttar Pradesh contributes to 18.90% of total agriculture contribution in India.  

To preserve and uphold this economy, distribution/ storage/ stocking centers are required for proper reach and logistics.

Multinational companies like Flipkart and Amazon have opened successful distribution centers in Uttar Pradesh due to high requirement of product consumption in this state. Recently Flipkart is under the news of opening its second warehouse in Lucknow.

National Capital Region or NCR, which includes the national capital territories of Delhi which are part of the neighbouring states Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. Ghaziabad which is referred to being NCR’s backbone has a lot of potential in distribution centers due to its low proximity to these cities and having competitive cost than any city in the region of NCR.

The upcoming elections in state of Uttar Pradesh will also define the future of the warehousing business. A progressive government in state would further boost this consumption and would give rise to need of quality warehousing spaces.
